Thermostat vs. Thermometer

I promise you that other staff members will be joining me in this blog world. We are just logistically figuring it out, so for now you get to hear me!!

I was at lunch today with a friend who is a prominent business man in Pittsburgh. We meet once a year to talk through NOH's strategy and our goals for the upcoming year. I always leave encouraged from our conversation. Today he left me with a great nugget of truth that I want to share with you.

He learned this principle from his grandfather who immigrated to America in the early part of the 20th century and built a very successful business from the ground up. The principle is this:

There are only two kinds of people in a meeting - the thermometer and the thermostat. The thermostats set the temperature of the room and the thermometers rise and fall according to that temperature that is set. As a leader we need to be thermostats-we need to be setting the temperature with our staffs or the people we are working with. Others will rise to the temperature that we set!

So lets be the thermostats of our organziations!!

Welcome to Words of Change

Welcome to Words of Change. I began a personal blog on my myspace page, but thought it would be a great idea to have our whole team blog together. Our team has such depth & insight into God's Word and ministering to people in need, why not have a collective effort. That's what we are all about - working together is always the best route to take. We are able to accomplish so much more when we share resources, talents and ideas. So I hope you enjoy our site. If you are interested in NOH becoming part of your church, please don't hesitate to call me or one of the staff...

A little information about myself-- My name is Kate. I've been the executive director of NOH since its founding in 2002. I'm living out one of the dreams God placed in my heart as a young girl - to reach and influence people where they are and give them hope to dream beyond their current circumstances. As for my personal life, I'm married to a great man, named Jim. We are celebrating our first anniversary in 2 weeks and expecting our first child:) Life is so good right now and I stand in amazement of all God has done in my life and through my life. The promises of God are yes and Amen!!
